- The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to patients, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN and/or LVN in charge of the team and/or unit.
- The primary patients served on the Med/Surg unit are adult and geriatric patients.
- CNA must be knowledgeable of the special needs of adult and geriatric patients for mobility assistance and skin care.
- They must possess the patience and understanding needed to deal with the frail elderly who need maximum assistance with ADLS. Occasionally, pediatric patients are admitted.
- CNA must be cognizant of safety issues and psychological issues connected with hospitalized children.
