- The Certified Histotechnologist performs daily histopathology procedures involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s) according to policies and procedures and to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment.
- Utilizes data in the Laboratory Information System to process and prepare patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist, according to established protocols.
- This may include logging, batching, cutting, mounting and staining procedures and autopsy support.
- Responsible for sorting, logging and prioritizing tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases according to the required standards.
- Releases the patient to the funeral home/coroner's office.
