- Peer Specialist performs a variety of supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery, learning, and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the peer specialist’s own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services.
- Works with Mental Health Counselors to provide assessment, counseling, re-integration, and/or rehabilitation services to program participants.
- Coordinate clinical services for emergency treatment for Veterans identified as at-risk of suicide.
- With the Mental Health Counselor and in consultation with program participant, develop, monitor, and document individualized suicide prevention plans that include specific goals and objectives.
- Provide referrals to participants and related activities (such as scheduling appointments) to help participants obtain needed suicide prevention services based on participants’ identified needs and goals.
