ABOUT USMichael Baker International is a global leader in Engineering, Architecture and Consulting professionals dedicated to developing and implementing innovative solutions to the world’s infrastructure and environmental challenges. Supported by more than 3,500 employees in nearly 100 locations across the United States, we provide a full continuum of engineering and consulting services, including design, planning, architectural, environmental, construction and program management.We partner with clients on projects for roads, bridges, tunnels, mass transit, airports, water treatment plants, arctic oil pipelines, environmental restoration, and specialized overseas construction. At Michael Baker, we serve as a trusted adviser to the communities we serve, making them safer, more accessible, more sustainable, and more prosperous.DESCRIPTIONMichael Baker International is seeking a highly motivated Bridge Engineering Associate I in support of our growing bridge practice in our Chicago, IL office.  As the Bridge Engineer, you will be able to contribute on conventional and complex bridge and structure design, load ratings, and bridge inspections. You will feel a sense of pride in knowing that you are helping Michael Baker International provide innovative solutions to transportation challenges, big and small, and Making a Difference for the clients and communities we serve.RESPONSIBILITIES<ul> <li>Assists with quantity and cost estimate calculations</li> <li>Assists with bridge design duties under the supervision of a licensed Structural Engineer</li> <li>Help prepare and update engineering calculations to be used in design reports and final design</li> <li>Assist with plan preparation of structure plans, or any other task associated with contract documents</li> <li>Demonstrate intermediate skill using various CAD and Microsoft Office programs to produce high quality design documents, exhibits, computation, and reports</li> <li>Assists in the review of shop drawings for conformance with contract plans</li> <li>Assists with bridge inspections and assessments</li> <li>Assists in utilizing bridge analysis software to develop models for bridge design and load rating evaluations.</li> <li>Assists with preparation for client and project meetings</li> <li>Helps integrate three-dimensional modeling within the larger BIM process for bridge design</li> <li>Occasionally work on-site with clients under the direction of an Inspection Team Leader or Professional Engineer</li></ul>PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS<ul> <li>Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from ABET Accredited University focusing on structures.  A Masters of Science in Civil Engineer with a structural focus is preferred.</li> <li>0-2 years of bridge design, analysis, inspection, load rating experience</li> <li>Strong technical skills and communication skills</li> <li>Familiarity with AASHTO, IDOT, and ISHTA design and construction standards preferred</li> <li>Pursuing and Engineer in Training (EIT) designation, or able to obtain within 6 months of hire. </li> <li>Desired computer skills include MicroStation, Open Bridge Designer, Finite Element Software, Bridge Design Software, Microsoft Office. </li></ul>COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position is $30.45- $45.67 per hour. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
