- The incumbent will support the Director by providing scientific expertise and oversight specifically to the Diagnostic Laboratory, Diagnostic R&D and Genetic Quality Control programs including the specific areas of infectious disease diagnostic testing, environmental monitoring, genetic quality testing, and biosafety/biosecurity.
- Assist in the development and dissemination of policies and plans for health and environmental monitoring, sanitation, contamination risk assessment, biosafety, biosecurity, and other issues pertaining to animal health.
- This includes on-call duties to provide veterinary coverage in the event of an after-hours animal health problem.
- Infectious Disease Consultations: Assist the Director of Diagnostic and Pathology Services in advising outside customers as well as departments and individuals within Jax about infectious disease testing, prevention of disease introduction into animal facilities, and procedures for maintaining healthy mice.
- Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesVeterinary Medicine -DVM. Must understand the basic principles of veterinary medicine as they apply to large numbers of mice, akin to herd medicine.
