- Under supervision of the Co-Directors of Genetic Counseling in the Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics, the genetic counselor will have both clinical and research responsibilities.
- Clinical Responsibilities include to provide genetic counseling to patients and family members in subspecialty clinics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York Presbyterian.
- In this role, the genetic counselor will conduct intake screening, risk assessment, explain nature and scope of testing procedures; act as a liaison between the clinical department and the molecular diagnostic laboratories; communicate results to patients and families and write summary reports; and develop and present in-service education to physicians and other health care providers to increase genetic testing fluency among providers of the Medical Center.
- Additionally, the genetic counselor will be involved in the implementation of new opportunities for the provision of genetic counseling across clinical and research subspecialities.
