- SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) providing clinical services including diagnosis of illness, development and management of treatment plans, prescription of medication.
- Process involves, but is not limited to, checking machines, appropriate small equipment, blood pressure cuffs, endotracheal tubes, and drugs for the conduit of anesthesia.
- Administer anesthesia only under the direct supervision of a faculty or staff physician anesthesiologist.
- Administer anesthesia, giving drugs and monitoring vital signs and other indicators of anesthesia's effects on patients.
