Code Enforcement Officer
The *City of San Clemente* is seeking a *Code Enforcement Officer* to support its code compliance operations on a *2–3 month assignment, with the potential for extension*. This opportunity is well suited for an experienced code enforcement professional who is comfortable working independently, interacting with the public, and addressing compliance matters in the field.
*Compensation*
*$35–$40 per hour*, depending on experience and qualifications.
*Schedule*
Scheduling can be flexible based on experience and availability. The City is looking to fill existing coverage gaps, which may include a *later shift*.
Staffing needs may include *up to one full-time officer or two part-time officers*, depending on candidate availability.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Perform field inspections and code compliance investigations.
* Respond to code-related complaints and concerns.
* Investigate potential violations and document findings accurately.
* Communicate with residents, property owners, businesses, and other stakeholders regarding compliance requirements.
* Educate the public and promote voluntary compliance with applicable regulations.
* Maintain accurate case files, records, and enforcement documentation.
* Follow up on assigned cases and ensure appropriate enforcement activities are completed.
* Exercise sound judgment and professionalism when addressing sensitive or challenging situations.
* Work independently while managing multiple assigned cases and priorities.
*Qualifications*
* Previous experience in *code enforcement, code compliance, or a related field*.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently in the field and manage an assigned workload.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to professionally handle interactions with the public.
* *CACEO certification preferred.*
* Experience with *CentralSquare* is a plus.
* Experience with other *code compliance or case management software* is also a plus.
*Additional Requirements*
* Valid California driver's license.
* Ability to successfully complete any required background investigation.
* Professional references may be required.
