Be part of history in the making apply today.D476 Groton COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering is seeking highly motivated engineers to work hands on solving deckplate issues. With the primary responsibility of proactively supporting COLUMBIA Class construction efforts in the Groton shipyard, the Construction Support Engineering team provides direct support to the shipyard trades and support organizations to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous completion of construction activities in a manner that results in delivery of ships consistent with the design intent. Construction Support Engineering is also responsible for supporting sea trials. Engineers will interface with Operations, Ship's Management, Planning, Design and Engineering, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), and PMS397 to act as the primary engineering interface for the Groton shipyard construction team.This is a unique opportunity to support construction through final assembly, test, certification, sea trials and delivery of the first of class SSBN 826 COLUMBIA, the Nations #1 defense priority, on the front lines of engineering. This once in a career opportunity will be challenging and rewarding as the COLUMBIA Waterfront team supports the Groton Shipyard to deliver boats.D476 Groton COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering provides mentoring and training for engineers who are new to construction.This is a 2nd shift position located in Groton, CT as part of D476 Construction Support Engineering.Responsibilities will include the following:Provide engineering oversight and assistance to trade personnelEvaluate emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction and rapidly develop technically acceptable resolutionsInterpret design, drawing, and specification requirementsProviding direction and evaluation to Groton trades via disposition of CNs and TIR UNSATsSupport final assembly, test, certification, and delivery activities for COLUMBIA ClassProvide surveillance of manufacturing, inspection, and testing of material in the Groton shipyardLead multidisciplinary engineering evaluationsFacilitate implementation of the design, lessons learned, and process improvementsFacilitate discipline specific knowledge transfer to the construction support engineering teamCoordinate engagement of design and engineering SMEs in the construction sequence.Responsibilities* Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills* Highly motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, Civil, Marine, or Electrical Engineering5+ years of discipline specific (structural, mechanical, piping or electrical) engineering experienceAbility to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance or higher is requiredPreferred:Prior deck plate construction experienceFamiliarity with Electronic Desktop (7G, Work Orders, ELCADD, ERS, etc.)Familiarity with Team Center (CR/CN experience)Prior US Navy or operations experience
