Senior Project Controls Manager and Operations Lead

Job Description Role SummaryThe Operations Lead, Denver is responsible for the leadership, performance, and growth of the Denver office. This role ensures the successful delivery of all project and construction management engagements, drives business development across the region, and builds and manages a high-performing team. The Lead is accountable for office utilization, profitability, and staffing, and is expected to maintain a minimum of 50% personal billability after year one. This role combines leadership, client delivery, and business development responsibilities, requiring both strategic oversight and direct contribution to project work.Reporting RelationshipsReports to the COO (with future reporting to the Sr. VP, PMCM)Direct reports include:Denver Project ManagersDenver QA/QC StaffDenver Project Controls StaffAuthoritySupervisory responsibility for direct reports, including performance management and assignment of dutiesAuthority to recommend hiring, termination, promotion, and compensation adjustments for direct reports, subject to final approval by the COOAuthority to negotiate and recommend professional services agreements and change orders; final approval and execution authority resides with the COOAuthority to review and approve client invoices for accuracy and completeness prior to submissionCore ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Office ManagementProvide overall leadership, direction, and accountability for the Denver officeBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders in the Denver regionRepresent the company in the local market through active participation in networking events, industry associations, and client engagements (including after-hours events and periodic travel)Conduct regular (at least quarterly) staff meetings to review project performance and operational prioritiesEnsure alignment with company strategy, policies, and standardsProject Delivery & OversightOversee execution of all projects within the Denver office to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are metEnsure consistency with company QA/QC standards and project controls practicesMaintain working knowledge of Project Controls and QA/QC disciplines, including applicable systems, tools, and standards, sufficient to effectively oversee project performanceReview project performance and intervene as necessary to maintain successful outcomesAssign projects and manage resource allocation across the teamBusiness DevelopmentIdentify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities within Denver and the surrounding region across all Sunland service lines, including Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture, and EngineeringDevelop and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients, partners, and referral sourcesSupport marketing, proposal development, and pricing strategies in coordination with corporate and support functionsPeople & Talent ManagementRecruit, develop, and retain high-quality professional staff aligned with current and future workloadRecommend hiring, promotion, compensation adjustments, and terminations for direct reports, subject to COO approvalManage employee performance, including disciplinary actions, in accordance with company policyAssess training and development needs and implement growth plans for team membersConduct performance reviews and manage employee development and progressionMaintain clear understanding of team roles and responsibilities to ensure effective delegation and accountabilityOperations & Financial ManagementEnsure accurate and timely completion of timesheets, job cost tracking, and project documentationEnsure and enforce that staff maintain accurate and timely timesheets and project documentation in accordance with company requirementsMaintain organized and compliant project files in accordance with company standardsOversee preparation of budgets for projects and contracts, including subconsultant agreementsReview and approve project documentation and billing inputs prior to submission to accountingCollaborate with corporate and support functions to ensure accurate marketing, pricing, and operational supportContribute to long-range planning, including strategic growth and operational objectivesQualifications & ExperienceDemonstrated experience in project and/or construction management, including direct project executionProven leadership experience managing teams, projects, and client relationshipsExperience negotiating contracts and managing project financial performanceDemonstrated success in business development, including sourcing and winning new workStrong professional presence with the ability to build and maintain relationships in the local marketWillingness to engage in networking activities, including after-hours events and regional travelPerformance ExpectationsPerformance in this role is measured by:Personal Billability:Minimum 30% in Year 1Minimum 50% in subsequent yearsTeam Utilization:Maintain approximately 80% billability across direct reportsProject Execution:Successful delivery of projects on scope, schedule, and budgetBusiness Growth:Generation and capture of new project opportunities across all service linesOperational Discipline:Timely and accurate timesheets, billing, and documentationWell-organized and compliant project recordsStrategic Alignment:Establishment and annual review of office goals and long-term plansCompany DescriptionSunland Group, Inc. is a multidisciplinary company of professionals that was founded in 1985.
