Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary/Objective: As part of Orion Engineers + Constructors' Engineering Services Mechanical Engineering Discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible to coordinate and manage engineering and technical development projects ensuring the highest standards of work and quality controls are in place, and all work is completed on schedule while meeting the utmost quality requirements. Essential Functions: Provide mechanical engineering services and technical support to customers. Mentor and lead the process engineering team. Offer technical oversight and assign tasks to junior engineers. Respond to technical questions and provide guidance. Lead engineering projects and proposals, including attending meetings and directing support staff. Communicate resource needs to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. Ensure project progress aligns with deadlines and quality standards. Visit client sites to support project execution and proposals. Act as an on-site interface with the back office. Communicate regularly with the team, customers, and supervisors. Ensure the application of Quality Management Systems (QMS). Record and track progress according to key performance indicators (KPI). Create work orders and standard operating instructions. Validate technical content of non-conformities in documentation. Stay updated with the latest developments in process engineering. Learn and apply client standards for field installations. Be available during scheduled work hours for remote work. Travel occasionally for fieldwork and construction support. Make important decisions under pressure with potential business or safety impacts. Lead by example in safety matters. Manage workload and update master data documentation. Produce detailed calculations, technical reports, and design sketches. Provide orientation support to new colleagues and trainees. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment: Normal business office environment with moderate noise. Approved Remote Environment The position typically performs tasks within assigned office facility but may require site visits to customer facilities. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. For site visits, safety glasses and other safety equipment are required depending on task. Orion will provide all personnel with standard safety equipment. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard. Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder or up and down stairs. Must be able to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites or office locations. Must be able to attend job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating facility in a hot climate. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Travel: Site visits could be required with little or no notice. Must be willing to travel overnight and work out of town as required. Travel may be required between Office Locations. Skills & Qualifications Experience leading project design and managing project teams, budgets, scopes, and schedules. Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams. Strong technical and practical engineering skills with a track record of delivering quality work. Knowledge of process engineering fundamentals and basic requirements of other engineering fields. Familiarity with local and international standards and regulatory requirements. Teamwork, flexibility, integrity, and professionalism. Proficiency in process engineering software and CAD software like AutoCAD. Skills in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint). Ability to set priorities and organize tasks effectively. Ability to read and understand policies, procedures, and technical documents. Strong written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high-quality standards. Reliability, punctuality, and a good attendance record. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements and obtain a TWIC card if needed. Ability to pass background checks and drug/alcohol tests. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Minimum of 15 years of experience in Mechanical/Design Engineering or a related field. Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
