Your office would be located in downtown Juneau.Typical ResponsibilitiesAs a Buyer in the CBJ Finance Purchasing Division, you will work with Departments to define their needs and help them through the appropriate purchasing process from the small, straight forward purchase to complex requests for proposals. You will build relationships with the staff departments throughout the City and help them find the most appropriate and expeditious path to obtain the goods and services they need to provide important services to the residents and visitors of our capital city! This job is never boring as you will be constantly learning about what the City does and needs to function well.You will be involved in preparing, soliciting, evaluating, negotiating, awarding, and administering contracts with suppliers and contractors. This position works with supervisory and non-supervisory employees citywide in an effective manner to ensure best pricing and value to the City.This is a flexibly staffed position, which allows CBJ to hire someone qualified as a Buyer I and then grow into the skills needed as a Buyer II that required to fully support the Purchasing Division and City.Minimum QualificationsBuyer I - (Range 16) $33.64 - $35.92 per hour (D.O.Q.)Education:High School graduation or the equivalent.Experience:Three (3) years of progressive procurement/purchasing experience of which at least two (2) years must have been at the Bid Specialist level within the City and Borough of Juneau or equivalent elsewhere.Substitution:Post-secondary education from an accredited college with major course work in Business Management, Public Administration, Accounting or related field may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 2.5 semester hours (3.75 quarter hours) for one (1) month of experience up to a maximum of 12 months may be substituted for the required experience.Buyer II - (Range 18) $38.33 - $40.92 per hour (D.O.Q.)Education:Graduation from college or university with major work in business administration or a closely related field.Experience:Two (2) years of experience in professional procurement and contracting.
