Registered Nurse- Pediatric Genetics & Endocrinology

SUMMARY: Under direct supervision and working interdependently with physicians and other care team members, provides a broad range of nursing services following established policies and protocols. Provides quality healthcare services and is a professional caregiver who demonstrates critical thinking skills and scientific judgement in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Direct Patient Care:Provides comprehensive nursing support to Genetics and Endocrinology physicians and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in the clinical setting.Performs thorough clinical intake for patients, including vital signs, medical history, and social history, with complete and accurate documentation in Athena.Performs phlebotomy and prepares specimens for submission to external laboratories.Care Coordination & Communication:Triages incoming clinical calls from patients and families, providing appropriate guidance and redirecting as necessary.Obtains prior authorizations for services, including medications, imaging, and laboratory testing, for Genetics and Endocrinology patients.Manages medication refill requests in accordance with physician direction.Communicates test results to patients and families under physician guidance.Coordinates and orders genetic testing through online portals, paper requisitions, and other required systems.Utilizes established clinical guidelines and protocols to support decision-making and patient management.Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.Documentation:Prepares patient charts in advance of appointments by gathering and reviewing laboratory, genetic testing, and imaging results.Maintains timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all patient care in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards; demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights.Writes orders and records progress notes that will be reviewed and countersigned by supervising physicians.Responsible for producing patient letters as needed, including: accommodation letters, school letters, documentation for physical and occupational therapy, etc.Collaboration & Team SupportEnsures communication between staff & physicians; responsible for arranging appointments & follow-up; serve as a front-line resource to obtain records, test results, & other clinical information.Adapts effectively to fluctuations in patient volume, acuity, and operational demands while maintaining high-quality care.Compliance & Personal DevelopmentParticipates in continuing education to enhance clinical knowledge, skills, and awareness of current practices and technologies.Ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including patient confidentiality, risk management, and standards set by JCAHO, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.Performs additional duties as assigned by management.QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.Current RN license in the state of Florida.BLS and PALS certification required (may be obtained within first 90 days of work).Two to four years related experience or equivalent.Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.Strong charting/documentation skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.Ability to manage priorities and workflow.Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.Acute attention to detail.Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
