We are looking for a brilliant Engineer to join as a Founding Member. The RoleWe are looking for a Founding Engineer / Hands-on Software Engineer to join our core team in New York City. This is a highly impactful role. You will work directly with the founders to design, build, and scale the core product and technical platform.This is not a narrow role. You will operate across the stack, influence architectural direction, own major systems end-to-end, and help establish the engineering culture and standards as the company scales.What You’ll DoArchitect, build, and own core components of Claira’s AI-powered document intelligence platformCollaborate closely with product, data, and business stakeholders to translate real customer problems into robust technical solutionsWork hands-on across the stack (backend, infrastructure, and frontend)Lead technical design discussions and set long-term engineering directionEstablish best practices around system design, code quality, testing, reliability, and securityOptimize systems for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability as customer usage growsMentor engineers as the team expands and contribute to building a high-ownership, high-impact engineering cultureWhat we are looking for3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including early-stage or high-growth environmentsComfort operating across the stack and jumping between product, architecture, and executionFamiliarity with AI development tools like Cursor, Claude Code or Github CopilotStrong computer science fundamentals and proven experience designing and scaling production systemsExperience with LLM/AI-enabled products, data platforms, or document processing systemsProven ownership mindset: you have built systems end-to-end and stood behind them in productionAbility to operate with ambiguity, move quickly, and make high-quality technical decisionsStrong communication skills and the ability to work closely with founders, product, and customersNice to have:Fintech, legaltech, or enterprise SaaS backgroundExperience building developer platforms, internal tooling, or complex workflow systemsTech Environment (not restrictive)Cloud-native infrastructure (AWS and GCP)Modern backend stacks (Python, TypeScript, containerized services)LLMs, document processing, and proprietary AI systemsRelational and NoSQL databases, vector stores, and search systemsModern frontend frameworks for product surfacesWe care more about engineering judgment and system design ability than specific tools.Why Join Us?Influence: You are a founding member.
