This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team management responsibilities, guiding a small but high-impact team of platform engineers who build and operate the container orchestration infrastructure that powers TradeStation's trading systems.As a member of our enterprise architecture team, this role will evaluate and drive adoption of cloud-native technologies, establish platform standards, and ensure our Kubernetes infrastructure meets the demanding requirements of financial trading workloads. The Sr. Solutions Architect will work closely with development teams across the organization to remove friction and accelerate their ability to build amazing experiences for our customers.Success in this role requires deep Kubernetes expertise, strong leadership skills, and an eagerness to have an impact that scales across the entire enterprise. The Sr. Solutions Architect should be comfortable operating at multiple levels – from architecting multi-region cluster strategies to mentoring engineers to debugging complex container networking issues.What You’ll Be Doing:Team Leadership & ManagementLead and manage the Kubernetes platform team, including hiring, performance management, and career developmentFoster a collaborative, high-performance culture and mentor platform engineers through code reviews and architecture discussionsCoordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize platform roadmap and communicate progressPlatform Architecture & EngineeringArchitect and evolve TradeStation's Kubernetes platform strategy, including multi-region patterns, disaster recovery, and hybrid cloud deploymentsDesign and implement platform services including service mesh (Cilium), GitOps (ArgoCD), observability (Datadog), and security controlsBuild templates, operators, and self-service tooling that accelerate development teams while maintaining compliance guardrailsDrive infrastructure-as-code adoption (Terraform) and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions for platform capabilitiesOperational ExcellenceEnsure platform meets financial services SLAs including 99.99% uptime during market hoursDefine runbooks, incident response procedures, and disaster recovery playbooks; proactively mitigate architectural risksLeverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate platform engineering and integrate AI tooling into CI/CD and operational workflowsThe Skills You Bring:Expert-level Kubernetes knowledge – control plane internals, scheduler, CNI (Cilium), CRDs, and multi-cluster/multi-region operationsDeep AWS experience (EKS, VPC, IAM) with infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform)Hands-on experience with GitOps (ArgoCD), service mesh, and policy engines (OPA/Gatekeeper)Strong programming skills (Python, Go, or similar) for platform tooling and automationExperience with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and observability stacks (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)Familiarity with developer portal concepts (Backstage) and platform engineering practicesExperience with AI-assisted development tools and workflowsDemonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiativesExcellent communication skills – ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiencesExperience with financial services or trading systems preferredExperience with on-premises Kubernetes and hybrid cloud architectures preferredPrior experience managing or building platform/infrastructure teams preferredMinimum Qualifications:B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering5+ years hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments5+ years hands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud providers3+ years experience in a progressive technical leadership role (team lead, tech lead, or similar)Desired Qualifications:Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or ProfessionalWhat We Offer:Collaborative work environmentCompetitive SalariesYearly bonusComprehensive benefits for you and your family starting Day 1Unlimited Paid Time OffFlexible working environmentTradeStation Account employee benefits, as well as full access to trading education materialsPay Range (US) $188-208K (Countries outside of the US have differing ranges in accordance with local labor markets)TradeStation provides equal employment opportunities to current and prospective employees, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, age, pregnancy, disability, handicap, citizenship, veteran or marital status, or any other legally recognized status entitled to protection under federal, state, or local anti-discrimination laws.
