Laboratory Assistant (Cytoprep)

OverviewUWH of The Carolinas Laboratory is currently seeking a Lab Assistant to work in our Cytology department. The Lab Assistant will perform various support activities for laboratory technical staff including specimen receipt and triage, specimen processing, ordering and stocking of materials, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining laboratory workspace and equipment.ResponsibilitiesReceive and process specimens consistent with specimen requirements for testing including positive patient identification, appropriate specimen collection container and specimen transport requirements.Identify and accurately label specimens and distribute them to the appropriate testing areaPrepare equipment and work space for specimen testingPerform equipment maintenance and document activitiesPerform clerical and administrative duties as neededOrganize and maintain lab specimen storageOrganize and monitor lab supplies for appropriate inventory levels as directed by laboratory leadershipCommunicate specimen or laboratory equipment non-conformities or malfunctions to technical staff and/or laboratory leadershipClean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and suppliesFollow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimensComply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety proceduresComply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologiesAssists all technical laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed.QualificationsHigh school degree or equivalent; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in science, life science, medical technology, mathematics, chemistry or related field preferred.Experience with Cytology, Histology, or Molecular Microbiology specialties is preferred2 years’ experience as a lab assistant or relevant experience in a lab is preferredWe’re here for you—both personally and professionally.Our benefits are designed to support you and your family at every stage of life.
