Middle School Student Success Specialist
Full-Time (or Part-Time, as applicable) start date August 10, 2026.Position OverviewThe Middle School Student Success Specialist works collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and families to support the academic, social-emotional, and executive-functioning needs of students in grades 6–8. This role is designed for an educator who understands the developmental needs of middle school students and thrives in a mission-driven, independent-school environment that values whole-child education.The Student Support Specialist provides targeted small-group and individual support, consults with teachers on differentiation and accommodations, and contributes to the school’s multi-tiered system of support (MTSS).Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support & InterventionProvide Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy support for middle school studentsSupport students with organization, study skills, time management, and self-advocacyFacilitate small-group skill-building sessions and short-term targeted interventionsMonitor student progress and adjust supports as neededSupport students and families in our Winter Flex programSocial-Emotional & Behavioral SupportCollaborate with counselors, advisors, and teachers to support students’ social-emotional well-beingHelp students develop strategies for self-regulation, resilience, and problem-solvingSupport transitions, peer relationships, and school engagementCollaboration & ConsultationPartner with classroom teachers to support differentiation, accommodations, and inclusive practicesParticipate in student support meetings, MTSS discussions, and problem-solving teamsCommunicate effectively with families regarding student progress and strategiesHelp oversee the Winter Flex program for middle school students and familiesDocumentation & SystemsMaintain clear records of interventions, progress monitoring, and support plansContribute to student support documentation in alignment with independent-school practicesSupport smooth transitions between grade levels and divisions as appropriateQualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, special education, school counseling, literacy, or related field preferredKnowledge of evidence-based reading interventions and instruction, and writing instruction across content areas (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or LETRS training preferred)Experience delivering academic literacy support to students in a small group settingExperience working with middle school students in an academic or support roleKnowledge of learning differences, executive-functioning development, and adolescent social-emotional growthFamiliarity with MTSS frameworks, accommodations, and progress monitoringStrong collaboration, communication, and organizational skillsDesired AttributesStudent-centered and strengths-based approachFlexible, reflective, and solutions-orientedCommitment to equity, inclusion, and belongingComfortable working in a collaborative, independent-school environmentEnthusiasm for middle school learners and their developmental journeyCompensation & BenefitsSalary range of $50,000-$70,000 for 10 months plus benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
