OverviewThe Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking an experienced congenital heart surgeon to develop, expand, and lead a high‑growth collaboration between Northern California Kaiser Permanente and Stanford Children’s Health congenital heart surgery program, located in Oakland, California. The candidate should be board‑eligible/certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or its equivalent in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical skills, a proven record for high‑quality outcomes, and demonstrated aptitude in program development. An academic appointment in the Clinician Educator Line at Stanford, at the appropriate level (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) will be offered. The Clinician Educator role is defined by engagement in clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarly activities that advance clinical medicine.Program ContextThe program is supported by a core group of cardiologists, intensivists, and cardiac anesthesiologists. Kaiser Permanente is the largest healthcare provider in the region, offering a full range of services to patients of all ages, from infants to adults born with congenital heart disease. In partnership with Stanford Children’s Health, complex quaternary services will also be provided locally and regionally as needed. Local infrastructure consists of an outstanding pediatric/cardiac intensive care unit, a full‑service neonatal unit, and hybrid and open cardiovascular operating rooms and catheterization laboratory.ResponsibilitiesLead and expand the Stanford–Kaiser collaborative congenital heart surgery program at the Oakland location.Provide clinical treatment for complex congenital heart defects in newborns, children, adolescents, and adults.Collaborate closely with the Stanford congenital cardiac surgery team, while autonomously managing operations at Oakland.Drive program growth, development, and quality improvement initiatives.Engage in teaching, research, and scholarship opportunities.QualificationsBoard‑eligible or board‑certified in Congenital Cardiac Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent.Excellent technical surgical skills with a proven record of high‑quality outcomes.Experience and aptitude in program development and leadership.Current valid and unrestricted California medical license.Compensation & BenefitsPursuant to California statute, the salary range is as follows:Assistant Professor: $295,000–$360,000Associate Professor: $430,000–$460,000Professor: $510,000–$540,000Base pay is based on faculty rank and years in rank. The range does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
