Construction Accounting Controller Metcalf Builders, Inc. is seeking a high-level Construction Accounting Controller to join and make significant contributions to our team. Strategy, Planning and Management Act as Controller and strategic business partner as a member of the leadership team. Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts. Provide insight and recommendations to both the short-term and long-term growth plans of organization. Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information. Evaluate departments and make suggestions for automating processes and increasing working efficiency. Communicate, engage and interact with Senior Management and actively participate as a member of the company’s Leadership Team. Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion. Recruit, interview and hire accounting staff as required. Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models. Implement policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by the leadership team. Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly profit and loss, forecast vs. budget and weekly cash flow for the company as well as any related companies. Prepare and present monthly work in progress report. Review and analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations. Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives and new service offerings. Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget. Supervise creation of reports, software implementation and tools for budgeting and forecasting. Prepare for and participate in meetings with Executive Leadership Team. Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations Supervise and mentor the accounting team. Ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases and financial software. Provide regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems. Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, compliance and financial procedures. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for Executive Leadership Team and company’s board of directors. Oversee the preparation and communication of weekly, monthly and annual financial statements. Oversee the preparation of all supporting documentation for financial statements including balance sheet account reconciliations. Oversee the preparation and timely filing of SALT tax returns. Prepare workpapers for CPA filing of Federal and State income tax returns. Oversee the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies. Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation. Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits. Financial Management Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability. Oversee cash, investments and asset management area. Maintain outstanding banking and surety relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners. Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization’s plans and operating budgets. Financial Relations and Policies Represent company to banks, sureties, financial partners, institutions, auditors and officials. Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding company operations. Cash Management Oversee weekly cash management and AP Department, approve large payables, approve checks, and submit wires and ACHs. Supervise Accounts Receivable management and provide guidance relating to the collection process. Construction Accounting Controller – Position Requirements Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics. CCIFP certification preferred. Membership and participation in CFMA (Construction Financial Management Association) is preferred. Five years minimum experience as a Controller in a mid-size construction company ($75 million+ in annual revenues). Advanced knowledge and understanding of GAAP and governmental compliance reporting. Background coordinating with I.T. staff to manage and/or upgrade accounting system. Systems implementation experience preferred. Ability to quickly learn and understand new accounting systems and software. “Hands On” ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Systems Experience. Experience with CMiC Construction ERP software a plus Outstanding communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and executive presence – ability to motivate staff. Advanced analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills Intermediate experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues. Benefits: Competitive salary.
