Primary Objective: The Fabrication CAD Drafter is responsible for producing accurate, detailed drawings and documentation used for fabrication, assembly, and installation. This role translates conceptual designs, engineering intent, and project requirements into shop-ready drawings that guide fabrication teams through manufacturing and assembly processes.
The CAD Drafter works closely with project managers, designers, engineers, and shop personnel to ensure drawings are clear, buildable, and aligned with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
CAD Drafting & Documentation
Create detailed fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and assembly drawings using CAD software
Develop part drawings, weld callouts, dimensions, tolerances, and notes required for fabrication
Produce exploded views, sections, and details to clearly communicate build intent
Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and cut lists as required
Update drawings to reflect revisions, RFIs, and field or shop changes
Design & Engineering Support
Translate design concepts, sketches, and 3D models into fabrication-ready documentation
Collaborate with designers, engineers, and fabricators to ensure drawings are practical and buildable
Assist in resolving design conflicts, constructability issues, and material constraints
Apply basic engineering principles related to structure, load paths, and fabrication methods
Shop Coordination
Work directly with fabrication and assembly teams to clarify drawings and answer technical questions
Incorporate shop feedback into drawing improvements and standards
Support fabrication sequencing and installation planning through clear documentation
Quality Control & Standards
Ensure drawings comply with internal drafting standards and industry best practices
Verify dimensions, materials, and tolerances prior to release
Maintain organized drawing sets, revision histories, and file structures
Assist with quality checks during fabrication and assembly as needed
Project Support
Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Participate in project kickoff meetings and internal design reviews
Assist with installation drawings, layouts, and as-built documentation when required
Qualification and Experience
Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in drafting, design, or fabrication
2–5 years of experience in CAD drafting for fabrication, manufacturing, or construction environments
Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar
Strong understanding of fabrication drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T fundamentals
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings
Strong attention to detail and organization
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
