This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a builder who can own the close, improve process quality and timeliness, strengthen controls, and modernize how accounting operates in a lean environment.The Controller will oversee all core accounting processes across expense, revenue, cash, payroll, audit support, and compliance. This person will be expected to operate with strong day-to-day ownership, roll up their sleeves where needed, and build a more automated, technology-enabled accounting function that keeps back-office overhead efficient as the business evolves.This role reports to the VP of Finance and will serve as a critical leadership role within the team and business.Color is hiring a Controller to lead and scale the company’s accounting function. This person will be expected to operate with strong day-to-day ownership, roll up their sleeves where needed, and build a more automated, technology-enabled accounting function that keeps back-office overhead efficient as the business evolves.This role reports to the VP of Finance and will serve as a critical leadership role within the team and business.How You’ll ContributeOwn day-to-day accounting operations across the general ledger, monthly close, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash, and financial reportingLead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process with a focus on timeliness, quality, and repeatabilityOversee accounting for expense, revenue, bank activity, and payroll, ensuring complete and accurate financial recordsServe as the primary accounting leader managing the accounting team in a lean, execution-oriented environmentStrengthen close controls, review procedures, balance sheet support, and accounting documentationPartner with external advisors on technical accounting matters, while retaining ownership of execution, judgment, and operational outcomes internallyIdentify and implement improvements in systems, workflows, and integrations to reduce manual effort and improve reliabilityExplore and engage with practical uses of automation and AI to improve close efficiency, review quality, reconciliations, flux analysis, and reporting supportPartner cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, People, and operational leaders to ensure accounting processes are aligned with business activitySupport audit, tax, and compliance workstreams with accurate schedules, clear ownership, and disciplined executionOur Ideal Candidate Will Have10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience leading close and controllership activitiesExperience operating in a hands-on accounting leadership role with a lean teamStrong command of U.S. GAAP, close management, reconciliations, and accounting operationsDemonstrated success improving close timelines, reporting quality, and process disciplineExperience overseeing expense, revenue, cash, and payroll accounting in a complex operating environmentStrong systems and process orientation, with the ability to identify automation opportunities and implement scalable workflowsPractical interest in applying technology and AI to accounting operations in ways that improve leverage and reduce low-value manual workStrong communication and judgment, with the ability to work cross-functionally and independentlyBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA strongly preferred; candidates without a CPA should bring clearly comparable controllership depth and experienceNice To HaveExperience in healthcare or other regulated environments is a strong plusExperience with NetSuite and RampExperience working with external audit and technical accounting partnersExperience improving accounting workflows through automation, tooling, or systems integrationFamiliarity with AI-enabled workflows in accounting, finance operations, or close managementWhat We Offer💰 Competitive salary✨ Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits📈 401k match📝 Monthly phone and wifi stipend for employees, annual ergonomic stipend🏝 Generous vacation policy, paid holidays and company-wide recharge days🍼 Equal paid parental leave for birthing and non-birthing parentsFree cancer screening and prevention resources for employees and their adult dependentsBase Salary Range: 175,000-220,000/yrThe actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: work experience, market data, skills, geographic location, and business need. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
