Screen every patient, family member, and staff entrant for MR-unsafe and MR-conditional implants, foreign bodies, and contraindications prior to Zone III/IV entry
Enforce ACR MR safety zones (I–IV) and the facility MR Safety Program at all times; elevate any safety deviation to the MR Safety Officer
Prepare and position patients, verify identity using two identifiers, explain procedures, obtain informed consent when applicable, and coach patients through claustrophobia and long sequences
Administer gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) within scope of practice and facility policy; screen renal function (eGFR) and monitor for adverse reactions and extravasation
Optimize pulse sequences, coil selection, and acquisition parameters to produce diagnostic-quality images while minimizing scan time and SAR exposure
Capture, transmit, and archive images and study metadata through VA PACS, the Radiology Information System (RIS), CPRS, and VistA Imaging
Support scheduling, order reconciliation, and patient-flow coordination with Medical Support Assistants, nursing, and referring providers
Perform daily QA (SNR, geometric accuracy, table positioning, emergency systems) and flag equipment malfunctions through Biomedical Engineering
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, the VA Privacy Act, record retention, and VA Talent Management System (TMS) training requirements
Participate in ACR MRI accreditation cycles, MR safety drills, quality improvement, and peer review as requested
Deliver patient-centered, Veteran-focused care with cultural humility and sensitivity to service-connected conditions
Required Qualifications
Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months (or equivalent) in a post-high-school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or another Department of Education–recognized accreditor (consistent with 42 CFR Part 75 credentialing)
