Kitchen AssistantThe Kitchen Assistant helps to provide nutritious lunches to our Heritage guests and assists with Heritage events.Essential FunctionsThis position is responsible for daily food prep of lunches for Heritage and for assisting with special events under the supervision of the executive chef.Primary responsibilities include daily food preparation, lunch service and cleanliness for a kosher food site.Helping cook and deliver kosher lunches to the Child Development CenterGeneral kitchen cleaning, dishwashing and organization of kitchen tools and food inventoryDaily batch cooking, food preparation, grilling, baking as needed per our menuSchedulePart-time, usually less than 10 hours per week. A couple of weekday mornings per week. Some additional hours for special events will be required.Part-Time BenefitsDaytime Hours - No evenings or weekends except for occasional special eventsFree individual membership to The JDiscounts on personal training, CrossFit, theatre shows and moreOn-the-job trainingRequirementsAbility to follow directionsAble to batch cook, saute, fry, bake, grill and has knowledge of general food prepWilling to learn to use basic kitchen equipmentWilling to learn basic food preparation skills for a kosher kitchenBring a creative approach and willingness to communicate new ideas, collaborate and share techniques for cooking in a kitchen with a small staffBe responsible in running the kitchen and completing daily duties when the Executive chef is awayHelp organize the storerooms and walk-ins so inventory is used and managed efficientlyKeep the kitchen environment clean following strict adherence to City of Overland Park and State of Kansas food codesAbility to follow a recipe and multiply when neededAbility to creatively improvise when necessary if menu items need to be subbed due to product shortage or delivery issuesBe ServSafe certified as a food handler (we will cover cost for online class & certification if you are not currently certified)Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for at least duration of three to five hour shiftAbility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances and regularly 25-50 poundsManual dexterity, frequent use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools and controlsConstant bending stretching, twisting, reaching, and squatting to lift or move itemsEnvironment could be hot, humid, or loud at timesAbout The JThe J is committed to creating a diverse environment.
