Partnering with families, Journey Academy designs individualized education plans and participates in Indiana ESA and SGO scholarship programs to foster academic and personal growth.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time on-site role for a Special Education Teacher, based in Michigan City, IN. The Special Education Teacher will work closely with individualized student education plans and implement tailored lesson plans for exceptional learners. Responsibilities include delivering specialized instruction, fostering academic and social development, supporting students with disabilities or neurodivergent profiles, and maintaining open communication with families. You will collaborate with team members to create a positive, inclusive learning environment and provide support for sensory, social-emotional, and academic needs.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans and instructional activitiesUtilize various teaching methods and materials to support diverse learning stylesEstablish and communicate clear learning goals and classroom expectationsMonitor student progress, assign and grade work, and provide regular feedbackMaintain accurate student records in accordance with laws and district policiesFoster a positive classroom environment and manage student behavior effectivelyParticipate in school meetings, professional development and parent communicationsStay current with best practices, curriculum updates, and instructional strategiesCollaborate with other staff/team members to provide consistent and sequenced educational experiences aligned to appropriate state standardsDirect and support paraprofessional(s)Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for all assigned studentsAdapt classroom activities and materials to meet individualized learning needsProvide personal care assistance for students with medical needsAdminister standardized and developmental assessments (e.g., ILEARN, IAM)Offer guidance to staff regarding special education servicesIntegrate relevant technology into instruction and student learningMaintain accurate and compliant documentation as required by DOE and Journey Academy policiesMaintain student and staff confidentialityFoster an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative classroom environment that supports students’ social-emotional growthRespond constructively to feedback and participate in ongoing professional growth opportunitiesPerform other duties as assigned to support the school communityQualificationsExperience and expertise in Special Education and working with students with disabilitiesBachelor's degree or higher in Special Education, Education, or a related fieldState certification or licensure in Special Education preferredExperience with individualized education plans (IEPs) and differentiated instruction is a plusSalary & Benefits  Compensation: based on experience Non-Discrimination Statement Journey Academy is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity or sexual orientation), disability, age, religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information.
