Crooked River Elementary School2026-27 OpeningSpecial Education Teacher – Functional Life Skills (Grades 3-5)Crooked River Elementary School in Casco, Maine is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to lead a Functional Life Skills classroom serving students in grades 3–5. This role focuses on supporting students with diverse learning needs in developing essential academic, social, communication, and daily living skills to promote independence and success across settings.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs Provide direct instruction in functional academics, communication, social-emotional skills, and daily living skillsUse evidence-based practices and differentiated instruction to support a range of abilitiesCollect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordinglyCollaborate with general education teachers, therapists, ed techs, and familiesSupervise and support educational technicians within the classroomFoster a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environmentSupport positive behavior interventions and crisis prevention strategies as neededParticipate in IEP meetings, team planning, and professional developmentQualificationsValid Maine certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities (e.g., 282 or equivalent) - requiredFingerprinting and certification through the Department of Education - requiredBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education - preferredExperience working with elementary students with diverse needs, including autism and developmental disabilities - preferredKnowledge of functional life skills curriculum and applied behavior strategies - preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills - preferredExperience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) - preferredFamiliarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and data-driven instruction - preferredTraining in crisis prevention/intervention (Safety Care) – preferred
