Science teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9 12. Candidates must work collaboratively with the Dennis Yarmouth Science Department and Department Chair throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. Teachers should be well-versed in Massachusetts High School Science Standards, as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices to ensure access to content for all students. Other duties may be assigned.Plan and facilitate Chemistry or Physical sciences electives lessons that are aligned with state standards.Create engaging lessons that are linked with 21st century skills.Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.Incorporate language activities into science instruction including speaking, reading and writing that align with state standards for language proficiency.Utilize available date to make instructional decisions that target the academic and linguistic needs of students.Plan and facilitate lab activities when aligned with state standards with the appropriate safety protocols and necessary training.Proctor assessments for students in grades 9 12 including MCAS.Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development.Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of Social Emotional support.Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.Contribute to school-wide initiatives, duties and events which may be assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and/or Physical Science Education requiredMassachusetts Teaching Licensure in Chemistry and/or Physics (9-12)SEI EndorsementPreferred Requirements: Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in additional certification (Special Education, dual certification Physics or Chemistry) o Work-based experience in a Physical sciences field, engineering, chemical industry and manufacturing, pharmacy, biochemistry, forensics, scienceCitizenship, residency or work visa requiredPRIMARY JOB CONTACT:Judy Provencher, Principal's Administrative AssistantDennis-Yarmouth Regional High School210 Station AvenueSouth Yarmouth, Massachusetts 02664Phone: (508) 398-7630
