Together, we advance your career.The Role:Do you love tuning to extract every last bit of performance?If so, AMD is looking for a Principal Software Engineer for a high impact role in Software Performance Engineeringfocused on improving and understanding the performance of key applications and benchmarks You will be a member of a core team of high-talent industry specialists and will work with the very latest hardware and software technology.The Person:You will apply your passion for performance and work together with our partners and internal teams to identify areas of concern, develop novel approaches, and leverage insider knowledge about our architecture and compilers to improve performance on AMD platforms. You will have the support of and interact closely with key AMD technical specialists to ensure the best possible performance, X-factors and results.Key Responsibilities:Identify and analyze AMD strengths and weaknesses in application performance, finding performance bottlenecksAnalyze compiler generated code, including x86 and ARM assemblyWrite and refactor code to take advantage of compiler optimizations, such as auto-vectorizationWork with AMD's compiler specialists to improve code generation qualityApply a data minded approach to target optimization effortsResearch alternative, more efficient ways to accomplish the same work and promote these to software vendorsContribute performance improvements to open-source projects and identify other applications that may benefitDevelop technical relationships with your peers at our partner software vendorsStay informed of software and hardware trends and innovations, especially in compilers and architectureBe a specialist in the performance characteristics of mainstream CPUsSome travel may be involved as you visit our partners at their locations as needed for co-engineering efforts and education Preferred Experience:Experience identifying performance bottlenecks on any platformKnowledge of modern compiler toolchains and optimizationsDeep knowledge of compiler optimization techniques such as PGODeep Knowledge of C/C++ programmingKnowledge of x86/x64 assembly language and special instructionsExperience using CPU profilers such as vTune, WPA, MSVS Performance ProfilerKnowledge of CPU architectureFamiliarity with modern source version control such as Git, MercurialExcellent communication skills and able to work with partners effectivelySelf-starter, passionate about performance Bonus:Knowledge of modern concurrent programming and threading APIsKnowledge of SIMD instructions such as SSE, AVX, NEONExperience developing highly parallel applications and algorithmsExperience with power/performance tuningKnowledge of interpreted languages such as Python and JavaScriptFamiliarity with both Windows and Linux environmentsAcademic Credentials:At least a BS/MS in computer science, computer engineering or a related field.Location:Austin, TX (preferred) / Santa Clara, CA / Seattle, WAThis role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.#LI-CB1#HybridBenefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.AMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services.
