Senior Backend Engineer

Overview As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will architect durable serverless systems and develop reliable Python services to power mission-critical healthcare workflows. You will work across engineering, product, analytics, and operations to support claims processing, eligibility ingestion, episode creation, provider search, and care coordination. You’ll design scalable, fault-tolerant architectures and own end-to-end delivery from design to monitoring. This role offers impact at scale in a healthcare context and opportunities to shape infrastructure and standards across teams. ResponsibilitiesDesign and build large-scale serverless systems using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, and KafkaArchitect fault-tolerant workflows supporting core healthcare operationsDevelop backend APIs for member-facing and partner-integrated applicationsWrite high-quality, test-driven Python services with a focus on reliability and maintainabilityImplement secure, compliant data flows aligned with healthcare privacy standardsPartner with Data Engineering and Analytics to ensure data accuracy and consistencyOwn services end-to-end through design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iterationBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as codeImprove reliability with automated rollbacks, canary deployments, alarms, and well-designed SLOsLead cross-functional discussions and propose long-term scalable solutionsMentor other engineers and contribute to engineering culture and technical standards Key requirements7+ years of backend engineering experience with production-grade systemsExpert-level experience with AWS serverless technologies and event-driven designStrong Python fundamentals including TDD, clean architecture, and modular codeDeep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and observabilityExperience building B2C and B2B platforms serving high-volume data and transactionsProficiency with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RDS, caching, and schema designStrong background in building scalable RESTful APIsExperience with GitHub Actions, IaC, automated pipelines, and cross-team collaborationExcellent communication skills and an ownership-driven mindsetexcellent communicationownership-driven mindsetcross-functional collaborationAWS serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS)KafkaPython (TDD, clean code, modular design)
