Operating Room Director

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced OR Director / Director of Surgical Services to lead perioperative operations within a Critical Access Hospital setting. This role is responsible for overseeing the Operating Room (OR), PACU, sterile processing, surgical supply management, staffing, budgeting, and surgeon relations while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and regulatory compliance.The ideal candidate will bring strong perioperative leadership experience, hands-on OR expertise, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with surgeons, nursing staff, and hospital leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesLead daily operations of the OR and PACU departmentsManage perioperative nursing staff including hiring, mentoring, scheduling, and evaluationsEnsure safe staffing levels and operational efficiencyOversee sterile processing, instrument sterilization, and regulatory complianceManage surgical inventory, supply chain coordination, and cost control initiativesCollaborate with surgeons and anesthesia teams to optimize scheduling and block utilizationDrive quality improvement, infection prevention, and patient safety initiativesDevelop and manage departmental operational and capital budgetsMaintain readiness for emergency and trauma surgical casesFoster strong physician and interdisciplinary team relationshipsCommunicate departmental performance and operational needs with executive leadershipRequired QualificationsActive RN License in New Mexico OR Compact RN LicenseBLS/CPR and ACLS certifications requiredMinimum 3 years of recent OR experienceHands-on experience with scrubbing and circulatingKnowledge of perioperative services, sterile processing, and surgical operationsStrong leadership, communication, and team management skillsPreferred QualificationsPrevious OR leadership or management experienceCritical Access Hospital experiencePALS certificationCNOR certificationPreferred BackgroundCandidates with experience in:Surgical Services LeadershipPerioperative ServicesOR ManagementPACU LeadershipRural or Critical Access Hospital environments
