GNC & Autonomy Engineer
Overview
You will lead the development of autonomous system capabilities, owning guidance, navigation, and control, state estimation, perception, and learning methods. The role is to build a new portfolio from the ground up, working closely with cross-functional teams to turn theory into field-ready solutions. You will write proposals to fund your research vector and mentor junior engineers while growing the program alongside established R&D support. This is a rare chance to shape a new capability within a proven organization.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop GNC algorithms for undersea and ground-based autonomous platformsDesign and implement state estimation, sensor fusion, and localization/mapping methodsDevelop computer vision and ML methods for perception and autonomous decision-makingTransition algorithms from theory to simulation to hardware-in-the-loop to field testingWrite technical proposals to government and private customers to fund the workPropose and lead internal IRAD efforts to mature new capabilitiesCollaborate with robotics and mechanical engineers on sensor selection and system integrationInterface with government and commercial customers to capture requirementsSupport existing mechanical design, thermal, and other programs as neededMentor and train junior engineers
Key requirementsPh.D. in relevant engineering field (or exceptional MS with strong research/industry experience)Minimum 3.3 GPA for all completed degreesHands-on experience developing/testing control algorithms, state estimation, or ML/CV on real systemsProficiency in Python, C++, MATLABU.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance in the futureWillingness to mentor junior engineers and adapt to adjacent mechanical workmentorshipcollaboration across teamsresearch-driven mindsetcontrol algorithmsstate estimationsensor fusion
