Director Architecture

The Director of Architecture leads the ground up architectural discipline within IA, driving design excellence, technical rigor, and project delivery across a portfolio of high-impact core and shell, mixed use, repositioning and exterior spaces. This role bridges strategic practice building with execution, ensuring that all work reflects IA's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and client value. The Director serves as a strategic leader, mentor, and key collaborator across studios and disciplines.Job ResponsibilitiesLeadership & StrategyLead and grow the ground up architectural practice within IA, aligning with firmwide goals and design visionPartner with studio leaders to shape project strategy, staffing, and executionContribute to business development efforts, including client pitches and thought leadershipIdentify opportunities to expand IA's architectural services and market presenceDesign & Technical ExcellenceChampion high-quality, innovative design solutions that integrate architecture and interiorsOversee technical design standards, documentation quality, and code complianceProvide guidance on complex design and detailing challenges across projectsEnsure consistency in design delivery and alignment with IA's brand and standardsProject OversightProvide executive-level oversight on key projects from concept through constructionSupport teams in risk management, budgeting, and schedulingCollaborate with consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure successful outcomesAct as a senior escalation point for technical or delivery challengesTeam DevelopmentMentor and develop architectural staff, fostering growth and leadership skillsSupport recruitment, retention, and performance management of team membersPromote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance cultureLead training initiatives related to technical skills, codes, and best practicesOperational ExcellenceEstablish and refine processes that improve efficiency, quality, and profitabilityEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standardsDrive adoption of new tools, technologies, and sustainable practicesMonitor and improve project delivery metrics and outcomesEducation, Work Experience, and LeadershipQualificationsLicensed Architect (RA) required12-15+ years of experience in architecture, with significant leadership experienceStrong background in ground up architectureDemonstrated success leading complex, large-scale projectsDeep knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and documentation standardsProven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor staffStrong client-facing, communication, and presentation skillsExperience with Revit and other relevant design/production toolsKey CompetenciesStrategic leadership and decision-makingDesign excellence and critical thinkingTechnical expertise and problem-solvingCollaboration and influenceBusiness acumen and client developmentMentorship and team building
