School Registered Nurse - Lanakila Elementary School

POSITION SUMMARY The Complex RN will support and assist the Complex Area and school administration to expand the access to care including on site school clinic and telehealth services, establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious disease (such as COVID-19), coordinate with community partners to enhance existing services and connect students to primary care and specialty providers, in addition to providing education to school staff, students and families. School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with a specialized component that promotes the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The school nurse is called upon to work closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, school administrators, Hawaii Keiki team members, and support the school health assistant (SHA) to carry out a wide range of school health activities. Location: Lanakila Elementary School (McKinley Complex) Full-Time Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm, 11 Month Employee Paid Time off includes all HIDOE holidays and breaks (fall, winter, spring break, and one month of the summer break) + sick leave and flex time off 11 Month Employee: Will follow the HIDOE Teacher Schedule and work either June or July supporting the Complex Area. While the Employee is not required to report to the school or complex area superintendent’s office when DOE schools are closed, it is expected that the employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the program which will include attendance at scheduled meetings and events during non-student days. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education/Training/Experience: Minimum: A bachelor’s or equivalent degree in nursing or health related field BLS for healthcare provider certification Experience with the use of electronic health records and program reporting Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii; or ability to sit for NCLEX exam within 180 days of graduation, in accordance with Executive Order 20-04 One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Preferred: A graduate degree in nursing or health related field Certified as a School Health Nurse by the National Board for Certification of School Nurses or certification obtained within one year of employment Experience working as a school nurse or in a school based health center. Experience providing telephone triage and/or telehealth services.
