Process Engineer FullTime Professional Shelby Township, MI, US Job Overview: SAPA Transmission, a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contractor, is seeking a Process Engineer to lead the development, implementation, optimization, and sustainment of manufacturing processes supporting advanced combat transmission systems. This role serves as a technical leader for manufacturing process development and continuous improvement across machining and assembly operations while partnering with subject matter experts supporting castings, materials, and other specialized manufacturing processes. Responsibilities: Lead the development, validation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for transmission components and assemblies. Establish and maintain process flows, work instructions, SOPs, PFMEAs, control plans, and manufacturing standards. Serve as a technical lead for manufacturing process development, process changes, and production readiness activities. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, productivity, and cost reduction. Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting manufacturing process issues and support cross-functional investigations involving casting, material, and supplier-related concerns. Lead root cause investigations and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Support and lead new product introduction, process validation, PPAP, capability studies, and equipment qualification activities. Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and suppliers to improve manufacturability, product quality, and production performance. Support manufacturing process development and continuous improvement activities across machining and assembly operations. Mentor engineers and technical personnel while supporting the development of manufacturing best practices. Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Manufacturing Change Requests (MCRs). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field. 5-7 years of manufacturing, process, or manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment. Experience leading process development, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong understanding of machining, assembly, and manufacturing process development. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications. Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and support production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, heavy equipment, or similar manufacturing environments. Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and project management skills. 6% retirement plan contribution by SAPA Transmission (regardless of employee contribution to 401k plan).
