Rochester - Occupational Therapist (2026-27)

Certificated Required Attachments:Cover LetterResume3 Certificated Reference Forms and/or LettersThe position description is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and the requirements of the job change.General Duties and Responsibilities:To provide, under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services and according to all special education law and regulation, diagnostic evaluations and therapy to students ages 3-22; to function as a member of all special education teams; to help students reach maximum performance level, and to use these skills to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:Provides direct supervision of occupational therapy assistants in accordance with the law.Develops, implements, and coordinates the occupational therapy program within the school setting, including departmental procedures and goals.Evaluates students using appropriate assessment tools, skilled professional observation, and supplementary information from other sources, including school records and outside providers.Demonstrates a high level of independence and professional discretion under general supervision.Interprets assessment findings and effectively communicates results to parents, school teams, and other stakeholders.Works collaboratively with school teams to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans.Develops and implements intervention strategies that support students' functional participation in school routines.Designs and provides strategies for supporting sensory regulation, fine motor development, self-care skills, and overall school participation.Develops individualized plans to address sensory, motor, and functional needs within the educational setting, training staff on appropriate implementation.Plans for students' transitions, helping them develop the skills needed for increased independence in school and beyond.Evaluates and documents student progress at regular intervals.Communicates and consults with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community providers, and other professionals to support student success.Serves as a resource to families, school teams, and staff on the educational impact of disabilities affecting sensory, motor, and functional abilities.Collaborates with community-based therapists and other healthcare providers for effective service coordination.Assesses needs and recommends assistive technology to support student participation in educational activitiesSupports sensory-friendly environments and recommends modifications to enhance student engagement and self-regulation.Procures, maintains, and inventories occupational therapy equipment, materials, and supplies.Demonstrates approachability, flexibility, and a willingness to support staff, students, and families in problem-solving and implementing strategies to promote student success.Perform other related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Washington ESA certificate in Occupational Therapy.Valid Washington Occupational Therapist License.Prefer training and/or experience in assessment, IEP development and program implementation.Candidate should have a sound understanding of special education rules and regulations.Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.Benefits:Employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance, as administered by the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
