FunctionThe purpose of the class is to provide practical nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a correctional environment. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) contributes to the nursing process through ongoing data collection, health assessments, documentation, medication administration, patient education, and implementation of physician orders. Work is performed in a team relationship with a Registered Nurse and under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator. The position requires adherence to established medical, safety, security, and infection control policies and procedures. Pursuant to15.2–1603 of the Code of Virginia, the incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in correctional, emergency, or acute care nursing is preferred.Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City of Hampton criteria, if required by assignment.Additional Requirements:Must maintain a valid and active Licensed Practical Nurse license in Virginia.Must maintain current CPR certification.
