Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Department Manager / Clinical DirectorPosition: Full TimeDepartment: Back OfficeReports To: Practice ManagerPosition OverviewThe Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Director at Fortuna Family Medicine Inc. is responsible for ensuring efficient, high-quality patient care while providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction of the medical department. This role combines hands-on clinical support with high-level operational, regulatory, and quality oversight to support a compliant and patient-centered Rural Health Clinic (RHC).Key Roles & ResponsibilitiesClinical DutiesRoom patients and obtain vital signs, including weight, height, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturationMaintain proper disinfection of equipment and patient care areasPerform point-of-care testing (e.g., Hgb/Hct, A1C, glucose, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, rapid strep) upon competency validationPerform venipuncture and ensure proper specimen handling for lab processingAdminister medications and vaccines via intramuscular and subcutaneous injection, including TB testingAssist providers with procedures such as biopsies, wound care, and PAP smearsConduct additional clinical tasks such as orthostatic vitals, oxygen testing, insulin education, and urine drug screening as neededSupervisory & Management DutiesProvide direct supervision and leadership to clinical staff, including Medical Assistants and nursing personnelOversee daily clinic operations, including staffing, patient flow, and assignment of dutiesEnsure compliance with all clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and safety standardsParticipate in hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of clinical staffAddress staff concerns, support conflict resolution, and foster a positive team environmentMonitor productivity, quality metrics, and patient care standards; implement improvements as neededCollaborate with leadership on strategic planning, policy development, and operational efficiencyClinical Leadership & OversightEstablish and optimize clinical workflows to improve efficiency and patient outcomesServe as a resource for complex clinical decision-making and issue resolutionPromote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and patient-centered careRegulatory Compliance (RHC & State/Federal)Ensure ongoing compliance with RHC regulations and applicable state and federal guidelinesMaintain audit and survey readiness (CDPH, HRSA, CMS)Oversee and ensure effectiveness of infection control, medication/vaccine management, and emergency preparednessPartner with compliance and quality leadership to implement corrective actions as neededQuality Improvement & Risk ManagementLead Quality Improvement Program (QIP) initiatives and performance trackingMonitor clinical quality metrics and implement improvement strategiesIdentify and mitigate clinical risks through proper documentation, reporting, and follow-upSupport incident review processes and system-wide improvementsStaff Development & Workforce PlanningEnsure ongoing competency validation and clinical skill developmentSupport cross-training initiatives and long-term staffing sustainabilityClinic Operations (Strategic Level)Collaborate with leadership to improve overall clinic efficiency and care delivery modelsSupport supply management systems and clinical resource planningEnsure clinical spaces meet regulatory and operational readiness standardsProvider CollaborationPartner with providers to enhance care delivery and clinical workflowsSupport implementation of new clinical programs, services, and protocolsAddress systemic workflow inefficiencies impacting patient careAdditional ProjectsSupport development and coordination of community outreach and lifestyle modification programs as time allowsQualifications & ExperienceRequired: Active and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of CaliforniaRequired: Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a clinical settingPreferred: Experience in outpatient or primary careStrong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skillsAbility to multitask, adapt, and support a growing Rural Health Clinic
