Excavator Operator – Scrap Yard

AMG Resources is seeking a safety-focused and experienced Excavator Operator to support our scrap metal recycling operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled heavy equipment operator who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and takes pride in maintaining safe and efficient yard operations. Position Summary The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely operating excavators equipped with specialized attachments such as grapples, magnets, shears, and buckets to move, sort, process, and load scrap metal and other recyclable materials throughout the yard. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production efficiency, equipment safety, and overall yard operations. Key Responsibilities Operate excavators to move, sort, stack, and load scrap materials throughout the yard Utilize attachments such as grapples, magnets, buckets, and shears to process and handle materials safely and efficiently Load trucks, trailers, containers, and railcars with scrap materials Feed processing equipment and assist with material flow throughout the facility Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance needs Communicate effectively with yard personnel using radios, hand signals, and other established procedures Follow all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and OSHA requirements Maintain a clean and organized work area Assist with general yard duties and other operational responsibilities as needed Qualifications Experience operating excavators is required Experience operating excavators with grapples, magnets, shears, or other material-handling attachments strongly preferred Previous scrap yard, metal recycling, demolition, construction, or heavy industrial experience preferred Strong commitment to workplace safety Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication and problem-solving skills Ability to perform basic equipment inspections and identify maintenance concerns Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Physical and Work Requirements Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods Ability to safely climb in and out of heavy equipment multiple times throughout the day Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally Must possess adequate vision, depth perception, coordination, and reaction time necessary for safe equipment operation Work Environment Outdoor scrap yard and recycling facility environment Fast-paced operation with continuous equipment and truck traffic Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and heavy machinery Requires adherence to all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements Why AMG Resources Stable and growing company in the recycling industry Team-oriented work environment Opportunity for long-term employment and advancement Training and skill development opportunities Strong commitment to employee safety and success Apply today to join our team and help support the recycling industry while building a rewarding career with AMG Resources.
