Senior Tax Accountant
SLS is seeking a CPA, or individual pursuing this certification, with a background in tax preparation and review with a minimum of three (3) years of public accounting experience. This role is full time and hybrid-remote, but only requires the candidate to work 2,080 hours for the full year. The role would include working on a variety of tax return types (individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and non-profits). There would also be monthly accounting work for our small business clients, as well as payroll work. In this position you will work closely with clients, and will have opportunities for staff supervision as well as being on a very quick partner track.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepare complex business and individual tax returns
Provide timely and high-quality services exceeding client expectations
Identify planning opportunities
Respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries when requested, and make recommendations to the client for consideration
File federal and state tax returns, extensions, and calculating quarterly payments
Develop skills for reviewing tax returns
Reconcile monthly accounts for small business clients and make adjustments to the financials
Proactively build relationships and communicate effectively with the client to provide superior client engagements
Have strong job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
3-7 years public accounting experience with an emphasis in preparation and/or review of work papers, complex income tax returns, research and projections (corporate, partnerships, LLCs, and individuals)
Current CPA or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam preferred
Some experience with tax planning and tax strategy
Technical and tax research skills
Ability to identify and propose resolutions to certain income tax issues
Understanding of financial statements and accounting
Strong organization and follow up skills, including the ability to handle competing priorities and meet all deadlines and commitments
Ability to give and follow instructions accurately and efficiently, proactive in asking clarifying questions to ensure work effort is directed wholly toward desired outcome
Excellent communication skills along with great or developing negotiation skills
Willingness and ability to adapt to new circumstances, information, and challenges
Preferred:
Proficiency with accounting software programs (Ultra Tax, Accounting CS, File Cabinet, QuickBooks)
Experience with filing quarterly payroll reports
