DescriptionThis is a 1099 contract role to start, with the potential to convert to full-time employment in the new fiscal year.About The RoleWe are seeking a Senior Python & SAS Developer to support the modernization of federal statistical and survey processing systems. This role focuses on transforming legacy SAS-based workflows into scalable, open-source solutions using Python (including PySpark) and modern data architecture patterns.You will play a key role in re-engineering backend processes, optimizing database logic, and supporting both legacy SAS systems and modern cloud-based, serverless applications.Key ResponsibilitiesModernize legacy SAS-based processes into Python-based solutions (PySpark or R where applicable)Refactor and re-architect applications into supporting cloud-based and serverless data processing workflowsTranslate procedural logic, stored procedures, and functions into optimized PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL)Develop, maintain, and support existing SAS (Base SAS) workflowsWork within a Linux-based environment for development and deploymentCollaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements and translate them into technical solutionsWrite, test, and deploy production-ready code; participate in code reviewsUse Git for version control and contribute to team development standardsSupport backend workflows, job processing, and system performance tuningRequirements4+ years Python development, including data processing or backend systems2+ years Hands-on experience with Base SAS in production environments4+ years experience developing and refactoring stored procedures, functions, and database logic in Oracle PL/SQL and/or PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL)4+ years working in Linux environmentsExperience modernizing legacy systems into open-source or cloud-based architecturesExperience with serverless or containerized environments (AWS Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)2+ years AWS experience (Lambda, SQS, SNS, IAM or similar services)Experience working with batch processing, ETL pipelines, or data workflow orchestrationStrong SQL skills and experience optimizing database performanceAbility to translate legacy logic into scalable, maintainable solutionsStrong communication skills in a remote environmentMust be a U.S. Citizen (federal contract requirement)
