Applied Math & Systems Engineer, Satellites
About the Companyconstellation space is building the operating system for satellite networks. modern constellations generate continuous streams of telemetry across thousands of nodes. today, that data is fragmented, reactive, and difficult to reason about in real time. we’re building the system that owns that data end-to-end, predicts failures before they happen, and autonomously makes decisions about how the network should behave. this is core infrastructure for the next generation of aerospace and telecommunications. team includes engineers from spacex, nasa, blue origin, and high-performance systems backgrounds.About the Roleyou will work directly with the founders to build the core systems behind constellationos. this is a systems role. you’ll design and implement distributed infrastructure that ingests high-throughput telemetry, runs real-time prediction pipelines, and drives autonomous decisioning. you won’t be scoped to a single layer. this includes backend systems, low-level performance work, cloud infrastructure, and operator-facing tooling. you’ll also work directly with customers in live environments.Responsibilitiesdesign distributed systems that handle continuous, high-volume telemetry streamsbuild low-latency components in c++ or rust where performance mattersdevelop and operate cloud infrastructure (aws or equivalent) with strong observability and reliability guaranteesintegrate machine learning systems into real-time decision pipelinescontribute to frontend/operator systems when needed to ensure tight feedback loopsdeploy and debug systems in real-world environments with actual users Qualificationsyou operate with high agency and don’t wait for directionyou think in systems: concurrency, networking, operating systems, data flowyou’re comfortable going low-level when needed (c++ / rust / performance profiling)you’ve built and operated real distributed systems in productionyou can work directly with technical customers and ambiguous requirementsyou prefer environments where speed and ownership matter more than process Preferred Skillsbonus if you’ve worked on: real-time systems, telemetry pipelines, aerospace, networking, or applied ml Pay range and compensation package$120k–$180k base 0.25–1.00% equity benefits included. compensation scales with depth, not years.Equal Opportunity Statementthis is not a typical startup software role. the problems are closer to infrastructure, autonomy, and control systems than traditional web development. if you want to work on systems where correctness, latency, and reliability actually matter, this will feel very different.Interview Processintro call (30 min)technical deep dive (real systems problem)final conversation with founders
