The chief medical resident primarily serves as a clinician-educator and liaison between the program and residents. The CMR can supervise clinical duties, perform administrative functions, set up and supervise educational conferences, coordinate schedules, participate on committees, assist with recruitment and lead other activities determined by the Program Director. A CMR serves as a middle manager in the hospital and clinical settings and reports to the program director, meeting with the PD on a weekly basis to discuss the residency program.Essential Functions:Provides teaching, supervision, and serves as a role model to residents, interns, and medical students. Perform and teach all essential and required procedures.Identifies needs for patient education. Provides education and orders including teaching subordinates.Provides teaching, support, and other duties as assigned to facilitate core conference series and other residency conferences. Participates actively in all educational and residency program activities and assumes responsibility for teaching and support.Actively participates on assigned hospital committees as a member. Participates in the resolution of residents' staffing conflicts and maintains flexibility regarding staffing patterns, including on-call schedule, jeopardy, and daily schedules. Provides coverage for temporary staffing conflicts of the residency program.Developing and implementation of resident schedule, jeopardy schedule and other schedule related issues.Develops and maintains a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance of the Program Director and Internal Medicine Residency faculty.Comprehensively documents in patients' charts in a timely and accurate manner.Perform other related duties as assigned.Unique duties:Qualifications:Education: Medical degreeMust have completed training from an accredited Internal Medicine residency program, and have a current Michigan medical licenseExperience: Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)Must have completed an ACGME accredited internal medicine residency with experience teaching and mentoring residents; handling educational and administrative tasks, as well as having successfully served patients along with the faculty.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability for effective problem identification and resolution as well as independent judgment.Awareness and ability to apply knowledge of legal issues in all aspects of patient care, incorporating risk management skills and quality control measures.Dexterity and competency to perform and teach all essential and required procedures.Ability to influence and lead others.Preferred qualifications:School/College/Division:H06 - School of MedicinePrimary department:H0609 - Internal MedicineEmployment type:Regular EmployeeJob type: Full TimeJob category: Staff/AdministrativeFunding/salary information:Compensation type: Annual SalaryHourly rate:Salary minimum: TBDSalary hire maximum: TBDWorking conditions:Patient, resident, attending and hospital staff interactions.
