Job Description: Team Leader – Core Laboratory CytogeneticsLocation: Charlotte, North Carolina, United StatesSchedule: Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM (Rotating weekends & holidays)Compensation & BenefitsHourly Rate: $35.50 – $50.25 per hour$4,000 relocation assistance$5,000 sign-on bonusJob SummaryThe Team Leader – Core Laboratory Cytogenetics supports laboratory operations by guiding teammates in executing cytogenetic testing processes. This role is responsible for coaching, training, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The Team Leader actively monitors workflow, resolves issues, and promotes a collaborative team environment.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team SupportTrain, coach, and mentor laboratory teammatesDevelop and maintain standard work proceduresFoster team engagement and support team-building initiativesAddress staffing gaps due to absences or workload fluctuationsEscalate personnel concerns to Group Leader when necessaryOperational ExcellenceEnsure continuous and efficient specimen workflowMonitor team productivity and respond to workflow disruptions (Andons)Maintain point-of-use inventory, labeling, and organizationCoordinate with Materials Management for supply needsQuality & ComplianceEnsure accuracy and quality of cytogenetic testingInvestigate quality issues and implement corrective actionsConduct audits to ensure adherence to standard proceduresDocument and report abnormal conditionsContinuous ImprovementDedicate at least 70% of time to process improvement initiativesIdentify opportunities to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost-effectivenessMaintain 5S standards and visual controls within the labSafetyEnsure compliance with PPE and safety protocolsMaintain a safe working environment involving biological and chemical hazardsTechnical SupportTroubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipmentConfirm issue resolution with team members before closureRequired QualificationsEducation & CertificationASCP Registered Medical Technologist (or equivalent)CG(ASCP) certification requiredExperience2–5 years of relevant laboratory experiencePrior leadership or supervisory experience preferredTechnical SkillsExperience in:FISH AnalysisChromosome Analysis (blood & bone marrow)Cytogenetics wet bench setupStrong understanding of laboratory workflows, quality systems, and testing processesProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)Key CompetenciesStrong leadership and team management skillsProblem-solving and analytical thinkingAbility to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environmentExcellent communication and organizational skillsFlexibility to handle on-call or abnormal situations
