Subject Matter Expert – Pressure Systems, Hydraulic Hose & Fluid Power IntegrityProgramme Development & Technical Training SMERole PurposeThe Subject Matter Expert (SME) will lead the design, development, and accreditation of specialist training programmes covering hydraulic hose assembly and integrity, pressure systems, nitrogen pumping operations, leak detection, hydrostatic testing, and fluid cleanliness management.The role ensures full alignment with BFPA standards, ASME PCC-2, API codes, and relevant international fluid power and pressure testing regulations, delivering competency-based training solutions for oil & gas, petrochemical, subsea, and heavy industrial environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop accredited training programmes in hydraulic hose systems, pressure testing, and fluid power integrity.Align all training content and competency frameworks with BFPA standards and recognised international pressure system codes.Develop structured procedures, work instructions, and competency assessment frameworks for hose and pressure system operations.Support commissioning of hose assembly workshops, including crimping/swaging systems, pressure test benches, and fitting libraries.Lead accreditation processes, audits, and compliance submissions with BFPA and other relevant governing bodies.Provide technical SME input into operational procedures, training delivery, and competency assurance systems.Support continuous improvement through incident reviews, root cause analysis, and lessons learned integration.Required Experience – EssentialMinimum 10+ years’ hands-on experience in hydraulics, fluid power, or pressure systems within oil & gas, petrochemical, subsea, or heavy industrial environments.At least 5+ years’ experience designing and delivering BFPA-accredited (or equivalent) hydraulic hose and fluid power training programmes.Proven experience commissioning and setting up hose assembly workshops, including crimping/swaging machines, pressure test benches, and fitting libraries.Strong field experience in hose inspection, integrity management, and maintenance aligned to BFPA or equivalent industry standards.Demonstrated experience operating and troubleshooting nitrogen pumping systems in live operational environments.Practical experience conducting hydrostatic pressure testing on pipework, vessels, and skidded equipment in line with ASME PCC-2, API 510/570, or equivalent standards.Experience in leak detection techniques, including ultrasonic testing, gas tracing, and soap solution methods on pressurised systems.Experience in fluid sampling, contamination control, particle counting, and ISO 4406 cleanliness analysis.Proven ability to author or significantly contribute to technical procedures, work instructions, or competency frameworks.Experience supporting or leading BFPA or equivalent accreditation audits and submissions.Required Experience – DesirableExperience in incident investigation and root cause analysis related to hose failures or pressure system incidents.International training delivery experience across multi-site, multi-cultural environments.Exposure to subsea hydraulic systems, umbilicals, or high-pressure test rigs.Qualifications & Professional Accreditation BFPA Approved Instructor/Assessor – Hydraulic Hose Training (mandatory)Working SafelyHose Assembly SkillsHose Integrity Inspection & ManagementRecognised fluid power qualification (e.g. BFPA Foundation in Hydraulics, City & Guilds Fluid Power, or equivalent)Pressure testing competency in line with ASME PCC-2, API 510/570, or recognised hydrostatic testing schemes (mandatory)Mechanical or fluid power engineering qualification (HNC / HND / Degree or apprenticeship plus extensive experience)Train-the-Trainer (desirable)TAQA / IOSH or equivalent safety and assessment certification (advantageous)Technical Knowledge RequirementsWorking knowledge of relevant standards and codes, including:ISO 4406 (Fluid cleanliness classification)ISO 17165 (Hydraulic fluid power – Hose assemblies)ISO 4413 / EN 982 (Hydraulic fluid power systems)ASME PCC-2API 510 / API 570
