Senior Structural Engineer
Summary
A leading national engineering and design consulting firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join a specialized Forensics and Facility Performance team.
This role is focused on existing buildings rather than traditional ground-up design. The engineer will investigate structural conditions, assess existing facilities, identify failures or deficiencies, and develop practical repair, rehabilitation, and restoration solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Perform forensic structural investigations and existing building evaluations
Conduct facility condition assessments and site investigations
Evaluate structural failures, deterioration, damage, and complex building conditions
Develop repair, rehabilitation, and restoration solutions
Support adaptive reuse, renovation, and historic building projects
Prepare technical reports, assessments, calculations, and recommendations
Design repairs involving steel, concrete, wood, and masonry systems
Lead projects from initial investigation through design and implementation
Work directly with building owners, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership
Support client relationships and new project opportunities
Requirements
10+ years of structural engineering / building design consulting experience
PE license required
Strong experience with existing buildings and structural systems
Forensic investigations, facility assessments, rehabilitation, restoration, or structural repair experience
Strong technical analysis and report writing skills
Experience with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
Strong knowledge of mechanics, materials, load paths, and building codes
Project leadership and mentoring experience
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline
