The incumbent serves as an Industrial Hygienist GS-0690-11/12. This position is located in Tulsa, OK. This position is developmental and management can select at the GS-11 level (with promotion potential to the GS-12)or at the full performance GS-12 level. Promotion is at management's discretion.MAJOR DUTIES Investigate safety accidents at project facilities and work sites. Perform onsite surveys and investigations of offices, shops, locks, dams, powerhouses, or construction sites. Collect information/material for laboratory analysis using standard chemical and physiological sampling techniques and procedures. Prepare technical reports containing investigation results and identification of health hazards. Advise management on recommended measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions. Other Conditions and RequirementsThis is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.Minimum RequirementsDegree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.ORRelated Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering andTechnicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.ORCertification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).RequirementsIn addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:GS-11Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting routine industrial hygiene surveys; AND 2) Preparing industrial hygiene survey data for inclusion in reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).OREducation: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, or safety sciences.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.GS-12Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes at least two of the following duties: 1) Administering an industrial hygiene program to ensure safe working conditions; OR 2) Utilizing industrial hygiene sampling equipment to test hazards; OR 3) Executing an occupational health or medical surveillance program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
