Remote Accounting Director
Macdonald & Company is partnered with one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing senior living operators, to appoint an Accounting Director to support the oversight and day-to-day management of the Accounting Department.This position will partner closely with the Controller and provide leadership, guidance, and review support to Accounting Managers and accounting staff across multiple community portfolios. The Accounting Director will play a key role in maintaining accounting accuracy, supporting financial reporting, and driving process improvements within a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical accounting foundation, leadership experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly collaborative and growth-oriented organization. This role offers the opportunity to contribute strategically while remaining hands-on in the execution of accounting operations and financial oversight.Key Responsibilities/Duties:Assist the Controller in the day-to-day management of the Accounting DepartmentReview Senior Accountant work, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and income statementsOversee and support month-end close activities across multiple portfoliosCoordinate audit requests and support external reporting requirementsPerform financial analysis and reporting for leadership and capital partnersAssist Senior Accountants and Staff Accountants with complex accounting matters and issue resolutionSupport oversight of corporate entity accounting activitiesEnsure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and proceduresIdentify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficienciesAssist with the development, training, and mentorship of accounting staffParticipate in special projects and strategic accounting initiativesCollaborate cross-functionally with accounting, operations, and leadership teams to support organizational objectivesMaintain a high level of accuracy and accountability in a deadline-driven environmentQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required7–8+ years of progressive accounting experience preferredPrior supervisory or management experience requiredStrong understanding of GAAP accounting principlesExperience within multi-entity accounting environments preferredSenior living, real estate, multifamily, hospitality, or property management industry experience strongly preferredYardi experience strongly preferredGreat Plains experience is a plusStrong Microsoft Excel and financial systems skills preferredCore Competencies:Strong leadership and team development capabilitiesExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational abilitiesEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesResults-driven with a strong sense of ownership and accountabilityAbility to work independently while collaborating cross-functionallyComfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environmentWork Environment:Primarily remote positionPreference for candidates located in Eastern or Central time zonesUp to 10% travel may be required for training and leadership meetings
