Breckinridge County SchoolsJob DescriptionJOB TITLE: TeacherSUPERVISOR: PrincipalEXEMPT STATUS: ExemptWORK YEAR: 185 DaysBASIC FUNCTION: Plans, organizes and delivers the program of instruction based on approved curriculum; monitors, evaluates, and communicates student progress; maintains records and makes reports; enforces Board policies, regulations, and rules; supervises students, and secures and maintains school property and materials.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designatedCreates and maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of studentsGuides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. in order to communicate these objectives to studentsEmploys instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, prepares for classes, and maintains written evidence of preparationAssists the administration in implementing Board policies, administrative regulations and school rules governing student life and conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just mannerAssesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports and counseling to parents as required concerning academic and behavioral progress of all assigned studentsParticipates in parent/teacher conferences as necessary to assist the parent's participation and support of a child's educationMaintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulationContinues personal professional growth and upgrading of skills appropriate to teaching assignmentsAttends staff meetings, serves on staff committees and accepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activitiesDuties may include performance of health services, for which training will be providedPerforms other duties as assigned by the principal or other administratorKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESKNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING:Curriculum, instruction, and assessmentRecord-keeping techniquesOperation of a computer terminal and data entry techniquesOral and written communication skillsLaws, rules, and regulations related to assigned activitiesPolicies and objectives of assigned program and activitiesInterpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesyABILITIES:To perform the responsibilities as previously outlinedUnderstand and follow oral and written directionsCommunicate effectively both orally and in writingEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with othersMaintain records and prepare reportsOperate a computer terminal and navigate technologyPrioritize and schedule workLearn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulationsMaintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictionsDetermine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelinesWork independently with little directionMeet schedules and timelinesPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Experience and preparation required by the BoardDemonstrates knowledge of current curriculum and instructional trends and techniquesLICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Kentucky certification appropriate to the grade level and curricular assignment (Physical Education or Elementary)Has met the requirements criminal records check and child abuse and neglect check as specified by Kentucky State Law
