Program Director (Volunteer)

We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. We connect students with our mentors for in-person and online programs.,Volunteer Program Director - Mentor A Promise (MAP)Location New York City (hybrid; on-site at schools/community sites as needed)Commitment 8-12 hours per week (flexible scheduling)Compensation Volunteer roleAbout Mentor A PromiseMentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social-emotional learning (SEL), academic support, and mentorship to students ages 5-18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. We believe mentorship is a promise-of consistency, compassion, and community-that can transform the lives of young people.The OpportunityWe are seeking a passionate, visionary Volunteer Program Director to guide and strengthen MAP’s expanding programs. This is a unique leadership opportunity to help shape the direction of a growing nonprofit and ensure that students facing housing insecurity have access to the mentorship and support they deserve.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership and DesignDevelop and oversee MAP’s program strategy and implementation for K-12 students.Adapt and strengthen trauma-informed, culturally responsive SEL and mentorship models.Pilot new initiatives such as family engagement, youth leadership, and career pathways.Team and Volunteer ManagementRecruit, train, and support volunteer mentors and program staff.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and care.Provide guidance through weekly check-ins, orientations, and professional development.Community and School PartnershipsServe as MAP’s program ambassador with schools, shelters, and community organizations.Build and maintain strong partnerships that ensure program sustainability.Represent MAP at community events and partner meetings.Program OperationsSupport scheduling, site operations, and youth participation tracking.Ensure all staff and volunteers complete required trainings, including partner orientation.Uphold safety, compliance, and youth protection standards.Evaluation and GrowthMonitor program outcomes and impact, using data to inform improvements.Support grant reporting, proposals, and donor communications with program insights.Contribute to long-term program strategy and scaling efforts.Qualifications5 or more years of experience in youth development, education, social work, or nonprofit leadershipStrong knowledge of trauma-informed and equity-centered practicesDemonstrated success leading programs or initiatives serving high-need youthExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsComfortable managing volunteers and building partnerships with schools and agenciesOrganized, adaptable, and mission-drivenBilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferredWhat You GainA leadership role in shaping innovative programs that directly impact NYC youthExperience working with a passionate team of educators, mentors, and community leadersOpportunities for professional growth in nonprofit leadership and program managementThe reward of making a direct, meaningful difference in the lives of students experiencing housing instabilityHow to ApplyPlease send your resume and a brief statement of interest (why this role inspires you and how you’d contribute) to volunteer@mentorapromise.org with the subject line Volunteer Program Director - [Your Name].Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.At MAP, we believe in the power of community.
