(Bachelor's degree in health or health related field from an accredited academic institution preferred).Experience Required - experience working in a health-related setting; preferred - experience working with American Indian population.Knowledge & Skills Must have an understanding and appreciation of cultural, social, medical belief systems and their impact on cancer health screening, planning and care (cross-cultural).Skills in public speaking to effectively communicate the cancer prevention curriculum concepts to groups of American Indian individuals.Ability to learn through individual and group study a prescribed curriculum ranging from cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, quality of life and surviving cancer and palliative care.Ability to meet with, solicit the cooperation of, and deal effectively with a variety of individuals (e.g., English as a Second language), professional and non-professionals at all levels, to achieve the goals of the project.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an effective and timely manner.Skill in interpersonal relationships, showing sensitivity, empathy, and a sense of fairness to the needs and opinions of others and a willingness to quickly resolve conflicts and recognize positive efforts.Ability to use analytical, consensus building, and problem-solving skills.Computer literate in (a) word processing software (Word preferred) (b) basic Internet / e-mail skills; (c) Power Point; and (d) Excel programs.Job SummaryThe purpose of the position is to provide training in cancer education to community groups and to serve as a navigator for cancer patients to access services as needed, to prevent cancer and to promote wellness within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Division of Health service area.Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a variety of settings: office, health centers, community centers, external partnerships and community agencies.Physical DemandsWork requires driving a vehicle to educational sites, transporting and setting up electronic equipment including laptop computer, projectors, etc. Performance of duties requires the demands of normal office work.Essential FunctionsSatisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:Provide training using culturally relevant cancer health materials and presentations for American Indians and make recommendations to tailor the information for the designated population.Participate in in-service meetings with Native Cancer navigators and other staffProvide one on one support for cancer patients and families during the course of the education intervention. Assist patients in obtaining timely and appropriate follow-up care for abnormal screening findings, cancer diagnoses, quality treatments and long-term quality of life and support programs.Upload all patient education, outreach, recruitment / referrals to screening, compliance with screening, appropriate follow-up care, and other information on a prescribed timeframe.Create and maintain positive working relationships with other American Indian programs in Oklahoma, with healthcare clinics and hospitals that serve American Indians, and other organizations that provide support and services to American Indian cancer patients.Correspond with local health programs (e.g., community members, leaders, and professionals) via phone, e-mail, facsimile, and mailAssist in the planning, coordination, promotion and evaluation of local events such as cancer screening, exhibit education booths, health fairs, and so on.Assist in developing, pretesting and revising culturally relevant American Indian cancer health materials and presentations.Regular in-person attendance is required.Performs other duties as required.Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
