Job Summary: Material graders report to work and attend morning meeting with production manager. Graders are responsible for grading all inbound loads and directing truck traffic to the correct unloading area. Graders assist production manager with communicating directing operators to needed locations in the processing and loading yards. The Inspector in a yard is generally an experienced general laborer who has gained a level of knowledge of the typical materials coming into a yard and has a solid understanding of what materials are not acceptable. They have to interact directly with the drivers coming into the yard and inspect the materials being unloaded. They advise the driver or commercial team member of materials rejected or make deductions for weights that are not ferrous metal. An example would be if a driver unloads a 30,000lb mixed load of scrap and wood- 28,000lbs metal and 2,000lbs wood. The grader would perform an inspection of the load and document the estimated 2,000lbs of wood. Grader would communicate his findings to the commercial team and a decision would be made on charging for the disposal of the wood or to load back onto the truck for disposal. Major Responsiblities: Attend and participate in morning safety and operation meetings. Provides service to customers, including traffic control, communicating program elements, and ensuring customer safety. Performs incoming, in-process grading of inbound and outbound loads. Inspects materials for environmental quality compliance issues and in compliance with the Materials Acceptance Policy Separates materials (unacceptable materials, non-shredder materials, et. al.). Housekeeping duties End of shift summary of daily deductions and downgrades sent to production manager. Job Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum 12 months of industry experience preferred. Able to work in Houston, TX. weather conditions. Able to lift and move objects up to 25lbs. Skilled at estimating the weight or volume of objects found in loads of scrap metal. Data entry and computer skills.
